1. How long have you lived in the area?
We have been living in Pinecrest for close to twenty years.
2. Where are you originally from?
We were both born in Cuba.
3.What do you do for a livelihood?
I am retired, thankfully!
4.How often do you come to the market?
Every Sunday after mass.
5. Do you have a market ritual?
You guys are our first stop and then we walk around to the other vendors.
6.What’s your favorite thing to buy at LNB Grovestand?
Fruits and vegetables.
Raul is one of the first visitors each morning. He comes specifically for the sapodillas we harvest each week thinking of him.
7. What have you made with ingredients bought at LNB Grovestand?
A little bit of everything, depending on the season.
8. What’s your favorite thing to buy at other stands at the market?
Quiche from the French baker, sourdough bread from Zak the baker, fresh tomatoes and the occasional orchid.
9.The best deal at the market is:
LNB Grovestand, of course! First class fruits and vegetables, a knowledgeable staff and huge doses of warmth and affection towards the clients!
10.I wish the market had:
Native plant vendors. We had two/three in the past but they have all dropped out.
11.Favorite market story:
I still miss the sticky buns and hot coffee when the Market was located by Gardner’s on 124th.
We do too! Adena’s parents, Marc and Kiki, were some of the founding marketeers alongside Patty & Mitch at Living Colors Nursery and Margie at Bee Heaven.
12.Most-frequented local restaurants:
We do a lot of cooking at home so trips to local restaurants are the staples, Wagon’s West, Malanga, really miss Ruben’s!
13.For special occasions, I go to:
My brother-in-law’s. Let him cook!
14.Favorite recipe:
All Cuban…picadillo, arroz con pollo, ropa vieja and other favorites.
